CANADIAN ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION AWARD OF MERIT

Terms of Reference

Description

  1. The award shall be known as the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Award of Merit.
  2. The award represents the highest award that lies within the power of the COA to bestow upon a person who is not a member of the Association.
  3. The award shall consist of an engraved plaque.
  4. The award shall be presented for excellence in at least two of the following areas:
  • Service to the profession in the field of medical organization as it relates to orthopaedic surgery specifically;
  • Service to the people of Canada in raising the standards of orthopaedic care in Canada;
  • Personal contributions to the advancement of orthopaedic research, orthopaedic education, health care organization or orthopaedic education of the public.

Terms

  1. Nominees are not necessarily a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association.
  2. The COA shall be under no obligation to make the award annually; it may be awarded to more than one person in a given year.
  3. Nominations may be submitted, accompanied by suitable documentation, by any member of the COA. Documentation will consist of a detailed letter qualifying the nominee. Nominations submitted electronically (e.g., fax or email) will be considered so long as the original documentation is later submitted.
  4. This award will not be presented posthumously. In the event of the demise of the nominee after being selected but before being presented with the award, it shall be presented posthumously.
  5. A nomination may be re-submitted in a subsequent year.
  6. The CEO shall receive nominations by December 17 of the year prior to the Annual Meeting at which the award is to be presented.
  7. The COA Executive shall make the recommendations to the Board of Directors for the award. The Board of Directors shall make the final decision.
  8. The recipient of this award shall be offered the opportunity of attending the Annual Meeting to accept the award at the expense of the COA.
