1) COA RECEPTION IN SAN DIEGO
On behalf of COA President, Dr. Ross Leighton, we invite all members to the COA's reception at the upcoming AAOS Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.  The reception will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 6:30-9:30pm in the Indigo Ballroom E at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, 1 Park Boulevard.  A walking map from the San Diego Convention Centre can be found here.  We look forward to seeing you all there!

2) CORA CALL FOR ABSTRACTS ENDS JANUARY 31
Our resident members are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation at the upcoming CORA Annual Meeting in St. John's.  The CORA meeting will consist of a resident's paper session, a hot topics symposium and a classic Newfoundland fish and chips dinner at O'Reilly's pub.  Complete abstract submission guidelines can be found on the CORA web site: www.coraweb.org.  The deadline for submissions is January 31.

3) HIP AND KNEE REPLACEMENT DATA COLLECTION - MINIMUM DATASET
Based on consultation and input from the Canadian Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR) Advisory Committee and members of the COA, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) is moving towards a minimum dataset for hip and knee replacements.  Work is underway to align the data currently collected by the CJRR with the minimum dataset recommended by the International Society of Arthroplasty Registries (ISAR). A minimum dataset will significantly reduce the burden on data providers while retaining key data elements to inform research and decision making to improve patient outcomes. The CJRR team would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. A special thank you to all of our participating orthopaedic surgeons and facilities for their continued valuable support in providing comprehensive joint replacement data.

4) ORTHOPAEDIC EDUCATION - THE E-FUTURE
Registration and call for abstracts is now open for the combined New Zealand Orthopaedic Association and Australian Orthopaedic Association meeting being held in Rotorua, New Zealand from October 9-14, 2011.  Early hotel and flight bookings are essential due to the extremely high demand from World Cup attendees.  Registration, housing, travel bookings and abstracts information can all be found at: www.aoanzoa2011.co.nz.

5) NATF APPLICATIONS & HOLIDAY CLOSURE
The December 30 application deadline for the North American Travelling Fellowship still applies regardless of COA office's holiday closure.  The office will be closed for the holidays from December 22 to January 3rd inclusively, but all application forms and supporting documents must be post-marked by December 30 in order to qualify.  If you have already submitted your application form, make sure that your sponsors have sent in their supporting letters by verifying with Cynthia Vezina: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before December 21 so you could send out a final reminder before the application deadline.
