Editorial: The Bulletin as a Voice for Advocacy
From the Editor-in-Chief
The COA Bulletin has always been more than a newsletter—it is a living forum for ideas that shape our profession. While academic journals remain essential for scientific rigor, the Bulletin offers something uniquely powerful: a space to amplify voices, spark dialogue, and tackle issues that extend beyond the operating room.
This edition illustrates that potential. In our Advocacy in Action section, the discussion around Quebec’s Bill 2 reminds us that policy decisions can profoundly impact patient care and professional practice. The Bulletin has already proven its ability to influence change—the seeds of the COA’s Position Statement on Pregnancy and Parental Leave, now shaping national conversations, were planted in these pages. Resources addressing intimate partner violence (IPV), also highlighted in this edition, further underscore the Bulletin’s role in discussing high-impact issues. By sharing perspectives, the Bulletin becomes a tool for collective awareness and action.
We also see the Bulletin’s role in knowledge translation. Sections like Clinical Insights and Research Innovations recapture key lessons from symposia and educational sessions, ensuring that expert perspectives reach a wider audience. These summaries transform complex discussions into actionable insights, bridging the gap between meeting rooms and clinical practice.
As we move forward, I encourage every member to view the COA Bulletin as your voice. Use it to share insights, raise questions, and advocate for progress. Whether it’s policy, patient-centered care, or emerging research, this platform belongs to all of us.
On behalf of the Editorial Board, I hope you enjoy this edition and I welcome your feedback!
