Hand & Wrist (WECAN) Subspecialty Day – Saturday, June 11
The 2021 COA Annual Meeting was held virtually from June 15-19, 2021. The conference was delivered over 4 evenings and 1 day of online education, including subspecialty programming, CORA and CORS sessions, presentation and networking opportunities. The hand and wrist programming included 1 paper session and 1 symposium. The most popular session was the COA Symposium: Hand and Wrist – Technical Tips for the Tough Distal Radius Fracture. You can consult their complete program below:
Friday, June 18 | 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM ET
Session Chairs:
Armin Badre, Western Upper Limb Facility
Andrea Chan, University Health Network/Toronto Western Hospital
Ruby Grewal, Hand and Upper Limb Centre
Friday, June 18 | 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM ET
Outline:
Good outcomes can be expected for open reduction and fixation of simple extra articular and undisplaced intra-articular distal radius fracture using many treatment techniques. Failure of fixation still occurs with challenging subsets of distal radius fracture. The volar and dorsal fracture dislocation of the wrist may be challenging to fix because of comminution and difficulty with fixation of small fragments. Fixation of the ’smashed ‘ distal radius can be frustrating and unsatisfying.
This symposium aims to improve surgeon confidence with exposure and fixation of these unique fractures, with case based description of tips and tricks and bail out solutions to gain confidence and improved outcomes.
